When he was a young man, Lord Hawthorne's home of Seragart was beset by a horde of barbarians led by a mysterious warlord wielding foul sorcery. As a proud descendant of Sir Rodric the Strong, Hawthorne knew his hero and ancestor would not have stood idly by. Although Seragart's rugged people were besieged and badly outnumbered, Hawthorne drew courage and strength from the tales of Rodric's bravery. Unwilling to let the horde pillage his people, Hawthorne led the troops that poured from the gates in a final desperate sortie, catching the barbarians by surprise. During the battle, Hawthorne uncovered the dark power behind the attacks: the renegade sorcerer Ankaur Maro. After longs hours of battle, the defenders of Seragart broke the barbarian siege, yet through dark magic, the evil sorcerer was nowhere to be found.
When Hawthorne was knighted for his bravery in the defense of Seragart, he vowed that never again would he allow a foe to escape his blade. Now, as rumors spread that Ankaur Maro has descended from the Mistlands to threaten Terrinoth, Lord Hawthorne rides forth to confront the dark sorcerer and defeat him once and for all.
